Programme Synopsis
Course 1: Leadership Dimensions
This course builds a deep understanding of the multiple dimensions that shape effective middle leadership. It provides the frameworks, strategies, and relational skills needed to lead with confidence across the full range of demands middle leaders face — from strategic planning and data-driven decision-making to navigating challenge and building trust. Key areas covered include:
- Exploring leadership styles and situational awareness to develop the range and adaptability effective leadership demands
- Using strategic frameworks and evidence — including street data and warm data — to translate priorities into meaningful improvement
- Navigating challenge, change, and complexity with resilience, judgement, and human understanding
- Building relational trust, psychological safety, and the personal mastery that sustains leadership over time
Course 2: Research in Action
This course equips middle leaders with the knowledge and confidence to engage critically with educational research and lead practitioner inquiry within their schools. It moves beyond surface-level engagement with evidence toward a disciplined, context-sensitive approach to using research for genuine improvement. Key areas covered include:
- Developing evidence-literacy to interpret, evaluate, and apply educational research with professional judgement
- Understanding how to translate research insights into improved classroom practice and school-wide priorities
- Designing focused, manageable practitioner inquiry projects rooted in real problems of practice
- Building leadership capacity to foster a culture of curiosity, inquiry, and evidence-informed professional learning
Course 3: UDL: Designing for Every Learner
This course introduces Universal Design for Learning as a research-based framework for designing inclusive, learner-centred environments. It challenges the myth of the average learner and equips middle leaders with the tools to anticipate variability, reduce barriers, and foster genuine student agency. Key areas covered include:
- Understanding the neuroscience underpinning UDL and its three core principles: Engagement, Representation, and Action and Expression
- Examining learner variability and how bias enters learning design in ways that often go unnoticed
- Applying the principle of firm goals and flexible pathways to design for rigour and inclusion simultaneously
- Connecting UDL with accessibility and Self-Determination Theory to develop purposeful, agentive learners
