In a groundbreaking study abroad module, the savvy scholars of Jio Institute's Digital Media and Marketing Communications program embarked on a transformative journey at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

Academic Odyssey

For two weeks, the curriculum covered Future Customer Experiences and Consumer Neuroscience and Neuromarketing. Prof. Jonathan Briggs and Prof. Gemma Calvert, took the reins, guiding students through a fusion of theory and application.

The course of Future Customer Experiences, conducted by Mr. Jonathan Briggs, unfolded with an exploration of consumer experiences and activity cycles, the art of influencing customers and technologies that will change the future consumer experience such as AI, Metaverse, NTFs, 3D printing and many more.

Whereas, Consumer Neuroscience and Neuromarketing took students on a fascinating journey into the human psyche. Prof Gemma Calvert, leading expert in the field, unraveled the mysteries of neuroscientific insights that underpin consumer decision-making. The curriculum covered Persuasive and Intuitive Marketing, the influence of brain science on consumer strategies, how to grab consumer’s attention, and the art of creating emotionally resonant marketing campaigns.

The program's emphasis on future customer experiences and consumer neuroscience has equipped Jio Institute students with a forward-thinking mindset, preparing them to navigate the evolving digital marketing arena. The interactive classes encouraged practical application with collaborative projects, case studies, tools and debates, preparing students for the futuristic marketing practices.

Industry Visits

In addition to classroom learning, students visited industry leaders like NCS Group and Decathlon Data Lab. These visits provided valuable insights into the implementation of communication strategies and user experiences.

At NCS Group, students gained insights on various tools like Journey Mapping, Experience Strategy, and User Experience, all focusing on the Human-Centered Experience Design. Students were particularly intrigued to learn about a committed team dedicated to enhancing Employee Experience. They focused on office culture, working methods, values, and architecture, showcasing a comprehensive approach to cultivating a positive and enriching work environment.

While at Decathlon Data Lab, students observed how it operates its in-store experience with innovative features and strategies like self-checkout, an inventory-checking robot and building a store in proximity to a sports hub. Committed to sustainability, the brand prioritizes customer lifetime value, adopts an omni-channel marketing approach, and transitions to an ecosystem model where they not only sell products but also services. 

These industry visits bridged the gap between theory and practice, offering a tangible understanding of how varied marketing strategies are used in the real world. Students gained a 360-degree view of the industry, fostering a deep appreciation for the diverse career paths.

Cultural Immersion

Beyond the academic & industry frontier, students went on campus tours of both Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU). The vibrant academic environments and vibrant student life at these prestigious institutions provided a holistic view of Singapore's educational landscape.

With a visit to the iconic Gardens by the Bay, amidst the futuristic super trees and domed conservatories, students witnessed an intersection of technology and nature, gaining inspiration for crafting memorable photo & video stories.

The study abroad module at NTU Singapore has left an unforgettable mark on Jio Institute's Digital Media and Marketing Communications students. As these students return home, they carry with them not only a global perspective but also the skills and innovative spirit required to lead in the professional environment. Jio Institute's exploration at NTU has undoubtedly set the stage for a new era in marketing education.
