Dr Bill Gerrard is an economics graduate of the University of Aberdeen (MA), Trinity College, Cambridge (MPhil) and the University of York (DPhil). He is currently Professor of Business Management at Leeds University Business School in the UK. Bill has published academic papers on the philosophy and methodology of economics, Keynesian economics, sports economics and sport management. His sports-based research has included the soccer players’ transfer market, measuring team quality, coaching efficiency, stadium naming rights, the sporting and financial performance of pro sports teams, and the importance of shared team experience. He is a former editor of the European Sport Management Quarterly. Bill’s principal focus in recent years has been developing data analysis as an evidence-based approach to managing sporting performance in professional team sports especially soccer and rugby union. He has worked with elite teams in the UK, USA, the Netherlands, South Africa and Australia.
