Dr. Andy Gillentine is a professor in the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Gillentine formerly held the roles of chair of the Department of Sport and Entertainment as well as associate dean of the institution.
Dr. Gillentine was fifth recipient of the title of Distinguished Sport Management Educator in 2012 awarded by The North American Society of Sport Management. The National Association of Sport and Physical Education presented him with the Sport Management Outstanding Achievement Award in 2009. He served as a founding commissioner of the Council of Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). He also served as chair of a joint task force of NASPE/NASSM among many other responsibilities.
His areas of interest in research include sports management concerns, professional development, and sport marketing. Dr. Gillentine is recognized as one of the leading experts on the legal, management, and marketing elements of tailgating at sports and entertainment events. His research initiatives for various sports organisations have produced more than 50 papers, four books, and more than 100 national and international presentations. In 2007, he was selected as a research fellow of the AAHPERD Research Consortium, the largest professional association for sport and physical educators in the U.S.
