Dwarikanath Mahapatra is a Senior Research Scientist at the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is also the Manager of the Applied Computer Vision Group. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from NIT Rourkela and obtained his Ph.D. from NUS Singapore specializing in the field of medical image analysis. He also worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at ETH Zurich and as a Research Scientist at IBM Research Melbourne.
His research interests are in applying AI and deep learning to challenging problems in computer vision and medical image analysis such as explainable AI, disease detection, classification, segmentation, image registration and synthetic image generation. He has expertise in multiple medical image analysis domains such as Digital Histopathology, Retinal Fundus and OCT, Chest Xray, and Cardiac MRI. He has co-authored more than 90 papers in the area of medical image analysis, and published in the top conferences and journals in his field of research. Currently he leads teams working on OCR, sign language translation and medical image analysis.
