Prof. Niek Lopes Cardozo is a leading fusion scientist and educator who served as Professor of Science and Technology of Nuclear Fusion at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), where he developed a dedicated interdisciplinary MSc programme in nuclear fusion. He has worked extensively across fusion plasma physics, diagnostics, plasma wall interaction, materials, fusion fuel cycles, and the techno economics of fusion energy. He also directed the Dutch fusion research programme and served on European fusion scientific and governing committees. He founded the European Network for Fusion Education (FUSENET), which now supports fusion education across universities, national laboratories, and industry. Since his retirement in 2024, he has remained active as an independent consultant and frequently lectures on the status and prospects of fusion energy.
