Dr. Sharma is an experienced experimental plasma physicist specializing in fusion science, RF heating and current drive (H&CD), plasma diagnostics, and fusion technologies. He holds a Master’s degree in Physics from IIT Kharagpur and a Ph.D. from the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Gandhinagar.

During his tenure at IPR, he led the Lower Hybrid Current Drive (LHCD) Group and later served as Head of the LHCD Division. He has contributed significantly to the development of high-power LHCD systems for Indian tokamaks, including ADITYA, SST-1, and ADITYA-U, as well as the 24 MW CW LHCD system for ITER.

He has collaborated with major international fusion facilities and institutions, including CEA France, ENEA Italy, NIFS Japan, and QST Japan. He is a Professor recognized by HBNI, a Life Member of PSSI and AAPPS-DPP, and a recipient of the PSSI Young Scientist Award. He holds several patents and has authored/co-authored over 150 research publications.
