Dr. Mohna Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor at Jio Institute, where her research spans Data Mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Machine Learning (ML). She focuses on the development of AI systems that are interpretable, modular, and socially aligned. Her work has been widely published in numerous top-tier venues and workshops, including ACL, UAI, SIGKDD, SIAM, TKDD, ICML, ICLR, and WWW.
At Jio Institute, Dr. Chakraborty leads the Language, Knowledge, and Reasoning Lab. The lab's mission is to move beyond sheer scale by redesigning representations to be more interpretable, efficient, and transferable. This includes building modular, updatable corpora that can evolve without retraining entire models, thereby enabling transparent reasoning for applications in high-stakes domains, reducing common failure modes, and building trust in AI outputs.
Dr. Chakraborty completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Iowa State University and her M.S. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her contributions have been recognised with several honours, including the Best Vision Paper Award and the DAAD AInet Fellowship.
In addition to her research, she actively contributes to the academic community by serving as a reviewer and programme committee member for leading conferences in Machine Learning, Data Mining, and NLP.
