"The AI revolution won't be defined by the people who ask the best questions—it will be defined by those who build the best answers."
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way we live, work and solve problems. As Generative AI rapidly reshapes industries, organisations are no longer looking merely for professionals who can use AI tools, they are seeking individuals who understand how intelligent systems are designed, built and deployed to solve real-world challenges.
Recognising this shift, Jio Institute launched the third edition of Tech Trek, an immersive learning experience designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice. Held from 6–17 July 2026, Tech Trek 3.0 – Gen AI Discovery brought together 29 undergraduate students, postgraduate learners and young professionals from STEM disciplines for an intensive twelve-day residential programme. Combining academic rigour with hands-on experimentation, industry immersion and collaborative innovation, the programme enabled participants to explore not only how AI works, butalso how it can be engineered responsibly to address complex business and societal challenges.
The journey began with an inspiring inaugural ceremony featuring Mr. Siddharth Sureka, Chief AI Officer, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited, who encouraged participants to focus not on finding jobs, but on building the capabilities to create them. Complementing this vision, Dr. Rajasekharan Pillai, Strategic Advisor, highlighted the importance of blending technology with ethics, creativity and human values, while Dr. Shailesh Kumar, Dean, Jio Institute, reminded participants that every lesson, discussion and interaction could become a stepping stone towards future innovation.
Over the following twelve days, participants progressed through a carefully curated curriculum covering the foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Transformer Architectures, Large Language Models, Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), model fine-tuning and Agentic AI. Rather than treating these as isolated topics, the programme adopted a systems-thinking approach, helping participants understand how modern AI applications are conceptualised, customised and deployed in enterprise environments.
Learning extended far beyond lectures. Through coding laboratories and guided implementation sessions, participants built applications using Large Language Models, experimented with leading AI frameworks and developed autonomous AI agents capable of executing complex workflows. These practical experiences transformed theoretical concepts into engineering skills while encouraging experimentation, collaboration and critical thinking—the qualities that define successful AI practitioners.
A distinguishing feature of Tech Trek 3.0 was its close integration with industry. During immersive visits to Reliance Corporate Park and FYND, participants experienced first-hand how Artificial Intelligence is transforming enterprise operations and powering next-generation digital products. From intelligent network management and digital retail experiences to AI-first product development, these visits demonstrated how classroom concepts translate into large-scale, real-world innovation.
The programme also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion on "Generative AI: Shaping Technology, Business and Society." Bringing together Dr. Deeksha Malik, Vice President & Head of AI Centre of Excellence, Jio-bp, and Mr. Rahul Deora, AI Lead, FYND, the session explored the future of work, responsible AI adoption and the evolving role of human intelligence in an AI-first world. Echoing one of the programme's central themes, Rahul Deora observed, "Prompting is not a long-term skill. Thinking is a long-term skill." The discussion reinforced that while AI capabilities will continue to evolve, curiosity, sound judgement and problem-solving will remain timeless human strengths.
The culmination of Tech Trek 3.0 came through an intensive Hackathon, where participants worked in teams to develop AI-powered solutions addressing challenges across education, healthcare, agriculture, sustainability and mobility. Drawing upon the concepts and tools they had mastered throughout the programme, each team presented innovative prototypes before an expert jury, demonstrating not only technical competence but also creativity, collaboration and a commitment to building technology with purpose.
The programme concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony graced by Mr. Aviral Gupta, CEO, Zostel, celebrating twelve days of learning, innovation and collaboration. Yet, the true success of Tech Trek lay beyond the certificates awarded.
Participants departed with stronger technical capabilities, invaluable industry insights, lasting professional networks and, perhaps most importantly, the confidence to think independently and build responsibly.
As Artificial Intelligence continues to redefine industries, initiatives such as Tech Trek are playing an increasingly important role in preparing future-ready talent. With every edition, the programme is evolving into more than a learning experience, it is becoming a launchpad for India's next generation of AI innovators, empowering young minds not only to adapt to technological change, but to lead it.
