“In India, we are at a fantastic point right now and fascinating developments happening in every aspect of Higher education. Everywhere I go in India, I see enormous energy and thought being put into ‘What we should do in the next 20-25 years’” remarked Prof. Raghu Sundaram, Dean of NYU Stern School of Business on his visit to the Jio Institute campus on 16th February 2024.

Prof. Raghu Sundaram is the Dean and the Edward I. Altman Professor of Credit and Debt Markets at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business. He also serves as a member of the Academic Council of Krea University and the Advisory Council of Shiv Nadar University Delhi-NCR, both in India, and the Advisory Board of the Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Beijing, China. He has published extensively in mathematical economics, decision theory, and game theory. His research has appeared in leading academic journals in finance and economics and several practitioner-oriented journals. He has also authored two books in the area of economics.

Upon his visit, Prof Sundaram, accompanied by the Vice Chancellor, Dr Dipak Jain, Project Director, Dr Palak Sheth and other dignitaries and staff of Jio Institute toured the campus infrastructure and facilities. During the tour, he was given a brief about Jio Institute’s vision, leadership, faculty, programmes and future expansion plans of the Institute by Dr Raveendra Chittoor, Dean of the School of Professional Studies & Executive Education.  

Prof Sundaram then interacted with the staff of Jio Institute, where he applauded the impressive set-up of the Jio Institute from its innovative approach to curriculum to the world-class, state-of-the-art infrastructure. He shared insights about his work in global strategy at NYU and emphasised the need for higher education institutes to adapt to current industry trends by revising their curriculums continuously.

He also met with the students of the Jio Institute, who engaged in extensive discussion on various topics. He discussed how his research career panned out for him in the 1980s to India’s future in the global arena and how the country is continuously evolving, both economically, and as a democracy. Prof Sundaram discussed his thoughts on the current job market and advised students to develop skills to match changing scenarios at the global level.

Prof Sundaram was felicitated by Dr Ravichandran, Provost, Jio Institute and Dr Dipak Jain, Vice Chancellor, Jio Institute. These visits offer students a wide range of perspectives that helps them to develop their own world view.
