At Jio Institute, the Singapore Management University brings in spunk to the Business Study Mission 2024-25
Jio Institute was abuzz with students from the Singapore Management University who came together for a 9-day programme. In the India Immersion Programme that kickstarted on Dec 7 with an inaugural session from Dr. Seshan Ramaswami, the participants were presented with an introduction of the collaborative programme between the Singapore Management University and Jio institute. The students from Singapore have travelled to India for an exposure to the Indian business ecosystem.
The event is an initiative designed to give global participants a deep dive into India’s budding business landscape. With themes like “Doing Business in India,” “Digitalization,” “Sustainability,” and “Heritage of Mumbai,” it offers a perfect blend of academic insights, industry immersion and cultural experiences.
On day 1, the participants saw key speeches on the Jio Institute campus. The programme participants became hooked on fascinating stories from the alumni of the SMU like Ms. Vanessa Zhang, Senior Vice President, DBS India, Mr. Raj Senapati from Singapore Leaders network (SGLN), Mr. Raghav Somani, Founder and CEO, Headphone Zone, Mr. Shariq Ashraf, Founder of WickedGud.
Mr. Ashraf talked about the jury-rigged creating value in India. Ms. Vanessa Zhang celebrated the quickness of deliveries akin to the first world in the city. In the group discussion compered by Dr. Ramaswami, the participants further enjoyed talks around moving things to accomplish goals. Mr. Raghav Somani further shared crucial inputs on handling high value products in international markets.
On day 2, the students visited the Gateway of India, traipsed around the Elephanta caves, and jaunted around Mumbai to a unique cultural immersion. The participants then went on a tour around the heritage sites in Mumbai. Marvelling around the architecture of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the team went about admiring the pictures around the Art Deco building and gadded about the Kala Ghoda area. They also visited the Mumba Devi temple and plied their wishes before the goddess of Mumbai. Then the Dhobi Ghat area turned into a studio for rustic candid pictures.
While the day was replete with excursion activities, the evening was melodiously calm. The participants enjoyed a sarod melody named the ‘Sarod Quintet’ at the NCPA. Ustad Amjad Ali Khan rendered the rendition to everyone’s pleasure.
In the following days, the participants are set to explore the key drivers behind India’s fast paced economic growth. They are bound to gain a nuanced understanding of the country's market drivers, particularly in digital technologies and sustainability sectors. With a focus on innovation across sectors like finance, agriculture, and governance, this program provides a fulsome view of India’s thriving economy and its unique sustainability journey.
