Following an exciting & hectic week of sessions, activities, workshops and industrial visits, the Orientation Week for the 2024-2025 batch of postgraduate programme students had the most fitting culmination – the Inauguration Ceremony.
Dapper blazers and black suits dotted the campus as the students thronged the academic block, in anticipation of the ceremony. The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of our Chief Guest, Mr Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Asia South at NVIDIA. He was joined by Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, Chancellor, Jio Institute and Dr. Dipak Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Jio Institute and other key members of the Institute leadership.
The event kicked-off with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, signifying the auspicious start of a fresh chapter in the life of our new cohort. Dr Palak Sheth, Project Director, Jio Institute, welcomed the dignitaries and the students to this rosy occasion.
This was followed by a welcome note and introduction to the three postgraduate programmes for the class of 2025 by Dr Raveendra Chittoor, Dean, Jio Institute.
Subsequently, Dr Dipak Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Jio Institute inspired the students with his experiential anecdotes from his enduring academic career. Speaking on India’s unique capabilities, “we Indians have 3 things, sanskar (values), Indian parents’ commitment to education and sangat (classmates)”. To conclude, Dr. Jain extended his support to the students, remarking “no challenge ahead of you is greater than the force behind you, and that we are all here for you”.
Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, Padma Vibhushan & Former Director General of CSIR, Government of India and Chancellor of Jio Institute, captivated the students with his inspirational anecdotes that propelled him to the pinnacle of achievements in the professional sphere of his life. Of his many anecdotes, he talked about the exponential growth principle, where he used pole vaulting as an example “we must pole vault, the size of your aspirations is the size of the pole”, left a profound impact on the students.
Mr Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Asia South at NVIDIA, and the Chief Guest of the Inauguration Ceremony for the Class of 2025, delivered an engaging presentation on the transformational journey of NVIDIA, and how it went from a graphics computing & video games-focused chip manufacturer to ventures in aerospace & deep-space exploration, propelling them to leading the Blockchain & AI revolution as a USD 2.18 trillion dollar enterprise, and the pivots that lead them to be the dominant force in graphics-based & cloud-based computing across the globe.
Dr Guruswami Ravichandran, Provost, Jio Institute, thanked the dignitaries for enriching the ceremony with their inspirational talks and wished the students the best in their novel educational endeavours with Jio Institute.
The ceremony culminated with the National Anthem, followed by batch photographs and high-tea. Jio Institute wholeheartedly thanks all the dignitaries for their presence at this momentous juncture in these students’ professional lives, and wishes the students a booming journey of lifelong learning.
